Capricorn is the tenth astrological sign in the Zodiac, originating from the constellation of Capricornus. Capricorn is considered a "feminine", negative (introvert) sign. It is also considered an earth sign and one of the four cardinal signs. Capricorn is ruled by the planet Saturn. Being the tenth sign of the zodiac, Capricorn has been associated with the astrological tenth house.

Personality

Persevering, patient, conventional, practical and disciplined.

Practical, unemotional, sober, orderly, controlling and manipulative.

Capricorn's are tireless and great workers, but at times to the point of strain and damage. You'll do any and all work assigned to you, so that you can impress your superiors and gradually move up the ladder. You will eventually gain more and more status and wealth, but it takes a long time. As a Capricorn, you understand that nothing is easy especially when it comes to status and power - therefore your patience is certainly valued.

More than any other sign, even Scorpio, Capricorns prefer dark colors. Black and shades of gray is you. It also relates to Saturn, the planet that rules Capricorn. Your sense of style may be traditional and conservative, which may be expressed best with dark colors. Dark colors can show status and power better, and that is, after all, what you spend your life striving for as a Capricorn.

Like your neighboring signs, Sagittarius and Aquarius, you are proudly intellectual. But you're not as argumentative as a Sagittarius. Yours is a quieter wisdom - if you know you're right, you don't believe you have to get into an all-out war just for the show of it. The truth will win out. For this reason, you make an excellent teacher. In fact, you see the world as very structured, and as you gain rank in the system, you believe in teaching those below you. If you are a teacher, you're probably very strict. It's not due to malevolence, just a strong sense of tradition, of wisdom, of right and wrong, of the merits of hard work.

Weaknesses and Trouble Spots

Generally, if you have the Sun in Capricorn you are very ordered and disciplined, but you may be tempted to have an occasional gambling binge or party. You try to live for the future, not for the moment. You're busy planning your life five, ten, twenty years from now while the Sagittarians, Leos, and Arians are living it up. However, even if you may be optimistic about your future, you're prone to getting depressed. Considering Capricorn is associated mostly with Saturn, there may be thoughts about death, the after life, and perhaps simply horror movies. You may even have a morbid sense of humor to the point where people think you're evil. Saturn's slowness also throws delays into your life. You're used to them by now, but still, you often think you have the worst luck. You'll do any chore or face any challenge that is thrown at you, because sacrifice is your nature, and when you have time again you'll work harder just to make up for what you lost.

Career & Financial

Capricorn's work best in a structure, such as a large corporation, school system, church, or the military. If you're a Capricorn, you definitely appreciate the earning of rank, and once you've achieved it, you hand down the same wisdom to those younger than you. This makes you an excellent teacher, pastor or priest, or ranking military officer. In business terms, the bigger the company the better, because it offers you the opportunity to work so hard that you climb from the mailroom to the executive suite. In fact, whenever you read about such a success story, it's almost always a Capricorn.

Capricorn's are quite good with financial data, so a large bank, insurance or investment company is a smart direction for you. As an Earth sign and having Saturn as your ruling planet, you appreciate buildings as well, so real estate and the construction industry are also recommended. Finally, Capricorn's connection to the bones and teeth can lead you to a successful career as a dentist or orthopedic surgeon.

Mythology

This constellation is sometimes identified as Amalthea, the goat that suckled the infant Zeus after his mother Rhea saved him from being devoured by his father Cronos in Greek mythology. The goat's broken horn was transformed into the cornucopia or horn of plenty. Some ancient sources claim that this derives from the sun "taking nourishment" while in the constellation, in preparation for its climb back northward. However, the constellation is more often depicted as a goat with a fish's tail. One myth says that when the goat-god Pan was attacked by the monster Typhon, he dove into the Nile; the parts above the water remained a goat, but those under the water transformed into a fish. In Sumer, the constellation was associated with the god Enki (Babylonian Ea), who brought culture out of the sea to humankind.
