Scorpio is the astrology sign of extremes and intensity. Scorpios are very deep, intense people, there is always more then meets the eye. They present a cool, detached and unemotional air to the world yet lying underneath is tremendous power, extreme strength, intense passion and a strong will and a persistent drive. Scorpios have a very penetrative mind, do not be surprised if they ask questions, they are trying to delve deeper and figure things out and survey the situation. They always want to know why, where and any other possible detail they can possibly know. Scorpio's are very weary of the games that other people try to play and they are very aware of it. Scorpios tend to dominate and control anyone that lets them, or anyone that they find weak. The person that a Scorpio respects and holds close to them is treated with amazing kindness, loyalty and generosity. On the outside, a Scorpio has great secretiveness and mystery. This magnetically draws people to them. They are known to be controlling and too ambitious but only because they need control for this makes them feel safe.
Scorpio is the eighth astrological sign in the Zodiac, originating from the constellation of Scorpius. Scorpio is considered a "feminine" and "fertile", negative (introverted) sign by most modern astrologers. It is also considered a water sign and one of the four fixed signs. Traditionally, the planet Mars has been considered to be the ruler of Scorpio. Also, since its discovery, Pluto has been considered a modern ruler of this sign. As the eighth sign in the zodiac, Scorpio is associated with the astrological eighth house. Under the tropical zodiac, the Sun enters Scorpio around October 23 and exits around November 22. Under the sidereal zodiac, it is currently there roughly from November 16 through December 15.
Scorpios are the most intense, profound, powerful characters in the zodiac. Even when they appear self-controlled and calm there is a seething intensity of emotional energy under the placid exterior. They are like the volcano not far under the surface of a calm sea, it may burst into eruption at any moment. But those of us who are particularly perceptive will be aware of the harnessed aggression, the immense forcefulness, magnetic intensity, and often strangely hypnotic personality under the tranquil, but watchful composure of Scorpio. In conventional social gatherings they are pleasant to be with, thoughtful in conversation, dignified, and reserved, yet affable and courteous; they sometimes possess penetrating eyes which make their shyer companions feel naked and defenseless before them.
Scorpios are often mysterious people because their true feelings run so deep and they keep their emotions hidden. They also like to uncover things under the surface of others and are very intuitive. Their intense desire to uncover things combined with their determination and loyalty make them great spiritual leaders, scientist, and doctors. They are very adaptable, often changing careers and going down new paths.
Mythology
Scorpius is one of the constellations of the zodiac; the associated astrological sign is called Scorpio. Its name is Latin for scorpion. It lies between Libra to the west and Sagittarius to the east. It is a large constellation located in the southern hemisphere near the center of the Milky Way.
In Greek mythology, associated with Scorpio almost invariably also contain a reference to Orion, a Greek giant who was a hunter and the most handsome man in the world. By no means impervious to the charms of females, Orion was said to have such an enormous stature that he could walk on the bottom of the sea without getting his head wet. One such tale involves Eos. She invited him to spend the night with her and he happily accepted but later bragged of the conquest and also boasted that he was such a magnificent hunter, that he would exterminate all of the wild beasts of the Earth. Apollo (God of the Sun, who was responsible for guarding herds) persuaded Gaia (or possibly Hera), to send a giant scorpion with impenetrable armor to sting Orion until the hunter was dead. Some variations state that the scorpion succeeded, while others maintain that Orion tried to escape by swimming out to sea, only to be shot by Artemis.
In a Greek fable, it is written that Orion boasted to Artemis and her mother Leto that he would kill every animal on the earth. Although Artemis was known to be a hunter herself, her divinity still offered protection to all creatures. Artemis and Leto sent a poisonous scorpion to deal with Orion. The pair battled and the contest was apparently a lively one that caught the attention of Zeus, who later raised the scorpion to heaven and afterwards, at the request of Artemis, did the same for Orion to serve as a reminder for mortals to curb their excessive pride.
Yet another myth associated with this constellation tells that Orion had pursued one or all of the Pleiades and Artemis sent the scorpion to kill him for his attempts to violate these women. Of course, the Pleiades were not known for their purity or innocence in terms of physical encounters so quite why the Goddess might want to protect their long-lost virtue remains something of a mystery. Another Greek legend states that it was Apollo who sent the scorpion to kill Orion because the God had become jealous of Artemis' attentions to the hunter. Later, in contrition for killing Orion, Apollo helped Artemis hang Orion's image in the night sky. However, the scorpion was also placed there and every time it appears on the horizon, Orion starts to sink into the other side of the sky, still running from his attacker.
Occupations & Financial
Scorpio's well-suited towards rising to the top of the corporate ladder because of your unique need to control. If your Sun is in Scorpio, your best path is by a combination of hard work, keen maneuvering, and working your subtle power magic. Your investigative abilities will tip you off to opportunities and strategies before everyone else, your suspicious nature will help you ward off the competition, your dark suits will demonstrate that you fit the bill, your powers of manipulation will get you in the right doors at the right times, and in between all this you'll work ceaselessly to prove you're the controller, not the controllee.
Outside the corporate structure, you are well-suited for a career in police work, detection, or intelligence (all of which make use of power, secrecy, curiosity, and danger) like Mata Hari, as well as medicine (particularly research). Examples of the latter include Jonas Salk and Marie Curie.
Scorpios Throughout Time
Perfect examples of powerful, mysterious Scor-pios who rose to the top of their fields include Ted Turner, Indira Gandhi, Robert Kennedy, George Patton, Roseanne Arnold, Charles Bronson, and filmmaker Mike Nichols.
The dark side of Scorpio is evident in writers such as Goethe, Milton (coincidentally, Milton's most famous work, Paradise Lost, is about the fall of man), Andre Malraux, and Dylan Thomas, as well as artist Pablo Picasso (his paintings are extremely confined and dark in color, containing immense power) and to a frightening extreme, Charles Manson.
