Taurus is the second astrological sign in the Zodiac, originating from the constellation of Taurus. In western astrology, this sign is no longer aligned with the constellation as a result of the precession of the equinoxes. In astrology, Taurus is considered a "feminine", negative (introvert) sign. It is also considered an earth sign and one of the four fixed signs. Taurus is ruled by the planet Venus (which also rules Libra). Being the second sign of the zodiac, Taurus has been associated with the astrological second house.

Individuals born when the Sun was in this sign are considered Taurus individuals. Under the tropical zodiac, the Sun is in Taurus roughly from April 21 to May 20. Under the sidereal zodiac, it is currently there roughly from May 15 to June 15.

Personality

The Taurean's characteristics are solidity, practicality, extreme determination and strength of will - no one will ever drive them, but they will willingly and loyally follow a leader they trust. They are stable, balanced, conservative good, law-abiding citizens and lovers of peace, possessing all the best qualities of the bourgeoisie. As they have a sense of material values and physical possessions, respect for property and a horror of falling into debt, they will do everything in their power to maintain the security of the status quo and be somewhat hostile to change.

Mentally, they are keen-witted and practical more often than intellectual, but apt to become fixed in their opinions through their preference for following accepted and reliable patterns of experience. Their character is generally dependable, steadfast, prudent, just, firm and unshaken in the face of difficulties. Their vices arise from their virtues, going to extremes on occasion, such as sometimes being too slavish to the conventions they admire.

On rare occasions a Taurean may be obstinately and exasperatingly self-righteous, unoriginal, rigid, ultraconservative, argumentative, querulous bores, stuck in a self-centered rut. They may develop a brooding resentment through nursing a series of injuries received and, whether their characters are positive or negative, they need someone to stroke their egos with a frequent, "Well Done!" Most Taureans are not this extreme though.

Career & Financial

Taurus people are most inclined to a job that involves tangible things, as opposed to ideas. Taureans are good with their hands: they would make a wonderful farmer, carpenter, construction worker, or chef. If your Sun is in Taurus, your love of nature also can lead to a career as an environmentalist or animal trainer. Other land-based jobs, such as real estate agent, surveyor, or forester, are also strong possibilities.

Financially, you are no gambler. You prefer a more conservative approach to money, which includes stable, long-term investments and a steady, reliable income. Security is what's important to you, not adventure. The only negative in this picture is your famous obstinance. Without an open mind, you might not see a good opportunity when it comes along. It's healthy to be practical— that instinct will always protect you, but sometimes your bull-headedness can get in the way of greatness.

Taureans Throughout Time

Taureans are often thought of as "salt of the earth" types, and this is, reflected in actors who are typecast as big, strong, silent, and earthy characters: Gary Cooper, Glenn Ford, and Henry Fonda fit this bill to a tee. You could even include Harry S. Truman in this category: as a president, he was very level-headed, and resolutely strong in his convictions (it takes a lot of guts to make the decision to drop an atomic bomb on two cities and stand by it).

Because Taurus rules the voice, some of the world's greatest singers are Taureans. The list includes Ella Fitzgerald, Barbra Streisand, Bing Crosby, and Perry Como—all of whom are not just fine singers, but noted particularly for the remarkably smooth texture of their voices. They're like fine wine, aurally.
